Thornton, R. M. The Chemistry of Life, Biology Version, 2/E CD ROM, Benjamin Cummings, 2003.

Objective:

To describe in a short essay or with diagrams the structure and role of DNA and RNA in the body and the roles of DNA and RNA polymerase, at the level of 85% proficiency for each student.

In order to achieve this objective, you will need to be able to:

  1. Compare and contrast nucleosides, nucleotides, nucleic acids, and pyrimidines from purines
  2. Describe the structure of DNA and RNA
  3. Describe the process of DNA replication and the role of DNA polymerase.
  4. Describe the general functions of RNA, ribosomes, and RNA polymerase and their role .
