Objective:

- Describe the features common to all sugars and describe
ways that sugars differ.
- Explain the importance of the difference between alpha and
beta sugars.
- Identify and describe the functions of glyceraldehyde,
ribose, glucose, fructose, and galactose.
- Describe hydration synthesis and the formation of
disaccharides and polysaccharides from simple sugars.
- Describe the structure and explain the importance of
sucrose, lactose, and maltose.
