Objective:

To describe in a short essay or with diagrams the major features, roles and construction of carbohydrates in the body, at the level of 85% proficiency for each student.

 

In order to achieve this objective, you will need to be able to:

 

  1. Describe the features common to all sugars and describe ways that sugars differ.
  2. Explain the importance of the difference between alpha and beta sugars.
  3. Identify and describe the functions of glyceraldehyde, ribose, glucose, fructose, and galactose.
  4. Describe hydration synthesis and the formation of disaccharides and polysaccharides from simple sugars.
  5. Describe the structure and explain the importance of sucrose, lactose, and maltose.
