Adrenal Gland

Adrenal medulla

contains neurons that produce norepinephrine and epinephrine

Adrenal cortex

Contains endocrine cells that produce Aldosterone, Cortisol, Androgen

Aldosterone layer (glomerulosa)

Cortisol layer (fascicularis)

Androgen layer (reticularis)

 

Pituitary gland

Posterior Pituitary

contains axons of hypothalamic neurons that produce vasopressin or oxytocin

Anterior Pituitary

Contains endocrine cells that produce TSH, ACTH, GH, FSH, LH, PRL

Intermediate Lobe

Contains endocrine cells that produce MSH

 

Median eminence

region of hypothalamus that connects to the pituitary stalk and contains axons of hypothalamic neurons that produce hypothalamic hormones

 

Hypophyseal Portal System

connects the capillaries of the median eminence to the capillaries of the anterior pituitary
